Camera Buying Checklist for Japan
A low sticker price is only one part of the decision. Complete these checks while you can still walk away.
Before you visit
- Write down the exact model number, color and kit configuration you want.
- Compare the total card charge in your own currency, including card or exchange fees.
- Decide which menu languages, warranty coverage and return flexibility are essential.
At the counter
- Confirm that the box and body model numbers match your target.
- Turn the camera on and verify the menu language yourself.
- Ask which warranty applies to this exact purchase and whether it remains usable after you leave Japan.
- Ask whether the sale is tax-free at purchase or uses a later refund process.
- Confirm the return procedure, required documents and whether returns must go to the same store.
- Inspect a used body carefully and test the controls, ports, sensor display and included accessories.
- Keep the receipt, tax-free documents, warranty papers and serial-number record together.
Decision rule
Do not buy if a missing language, unusable warranty or uncertain specification would outweigh the saving. A good Japan purchase is one you can still use and support after returning home.
